For your parent
Elder mode turns the phone into a short list of family and one Help button. Everything an elderly parent needs to stay in touch, and nothing they don't.
One tap to call
Each person is a large card. Tap anywhere on it and the call starts. Each card also says when you last spoke.
Big and calm
Large text and buttons, no menus to get lost in, and it stays readable with the phone's large text turned on.
Rings like a phone call
Calls ring on the lock screen with answer and decline buttons, even when the app is closed.
Missed calls stay in sight
A missed call turns that person's card amber, with Call back and Ignore, until it's dealt with.
A Help button
Set up by the family: it either alerts everyone in the family at once, or counts down five seconds and opens the phone's dialer with an emergency number such as 112 or 911. It isn't an emergency service; see our terms.
Nothing changes by accident
Settings and contacts sit behind a PIN. If it's forgotten, the family member you chose gets a one-time code to unlock the phone.
For the family
Each of you has your own account on your own phone, so brothers, sisters and grandchildren can all be on the same parent's list.
Know it rang
While you call, you see whether the other phone actually rang, or that it hasn't, because it's off or offline. If an Android phone is on silent, on vibrate or on Do Not Disturb, you're told.
Their phone at a glance
Under a parent in elder mode: the battery, when the phone was last online, and on Android whether it's on silent, on vibrate or on Do Not Disturb, and how loud the ring is.
Help alerts
When your parent presses Help, every family member gets an alert. One taps "I'll handle it", and everyone else, your parent included, sees who.
Linked with a code
Two phones are linked with a six-digit code that works for ten minutes. Nobody can call your parent just by knowing their email address.
Call history
Who called whom and when, with missed calls marked and a Call button on every row.
Block and report
Block anyone from their page in your Family list, and report a problem to us from the same place.
Private by design
- Calls are never recorded.
- No ads, no tracking, no analytics.
- Call audio is encrypted on its way to and from the call server.
- Works on iPhone and Android, over Wi-Fi or mobile data. No phone number needed.

What we deliberately left out
takeFT is opinionated about simplicity. There is:
- No chat or text messaging
- No video calls
- No profile photos to upload
- No group calls
- No call recording
- No subscription or in-app purchases
Less is more when the goal is "Grandma calls me without help."
